The outfit is laid out, earrings, necklace and shoes have been chosen. My daughter has spent almost the entire day preparing for her first day of Kindergarten.

Her fingernails are even a pretty light pink. She wanted to do her toes too, but I didn’t think it was necessary since they were still gold from the last pedicure we did. Plus we decided she had to wear closed toed shoes to school because of the wood chips in the playground.

I wasn’t excited about Kindergarten. I think I was probably afraid, as shy as I was back then. I remember Mrs. Garcia. I remember a boy named George and another boy that wet his pants and smelled bad. I don’t remember at all if my mom cried when she dropped me off for my first day. I do remember her advice to make friends, “Just say hi, my name is Christina. Do you want to be friends?” But I was shy and afraid. I needed that kind of advice.

I’m not sure what to say to my daughter. She listens in school, she has friends, she’s outgoing and she’s very very intelligent. When it comes to Kindergarten, she’s got this.

“We need to go to bed so I can get some rest for school,” she said at 8:00.

We read Boom Chicka Rock, Millie Moo and a Christmas book about Jesus. Her choices of course. She gives me a hug and kiss and says, “Goodnight mommy. I love  you. See you in the morning,” before rolling over away from me.

If tomorrow is as hard as tonight…I’m so not ready.
